Connecting Through Culture is a community-based cultural program led by Ballet Esmeraldas de Colombia that brings people together through Colombian folkloric dance, music, traditions, and cultural expression.
Participants explore traditional Colombian dances including Cumbia, Currulao, Joropo, and Mapalé, learning not only the movements but also the cultural traditions and stories connected to them. The program helps preserve and share Colombian cultural heritage while creating opportunities for different generations to participate together.
Connecting Through Culture provides an inclusive space where people from different generations, cultures, and backgrounds can connect, learn, participate, and celebrate together. Cultural activities encourage social interaction, strengthen community relationships, and create opportunities for participants to share their experiences and talents.
The program also includes cultural performances and community events, allowing participants to showcase what they have learned and share Colombian traditions with the wider Ottawa community.
By bringing people together through culture, Connecting Through Culture contributes to cultural understanding, diversity, inclusion, and social connection in Ottawa.
